Gluten-free sloppy joes with white vinegar
This version is very close to classic Manwich, with that sweet, tangy, savory flavor. It makes about 4–6 sandwiches depending on how generously you pile it on.
Ingredients:
1 lb ground beef
1/2 cup diced onion
1/2 cup ketchup
2 tbsp tomato paste
1 tbsp yellow mustard
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (gluten-free if needed)
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp white vinegar
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp smoked paprika (optional but recommended)
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/2 cup water
Instructions:
Brown the ground beef and onion in a large skillet over medium-high heat until the beef is fully cooked.
Drain excess grease if desired.
Add the ketchup, tomato paste, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, white vinegar, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, pepper, and water.
Stir well until everything is combined.
Simmer uncovered for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and coats the meat.
Taste and adjust:
Sweeter: add another 1 tsp brown sugar.
More tangy: add another 1/2 tsp white vinegar.
Thicker: simmer a few minutes longer.
Serve on gluten-free buns, toasted gluten-free bread, or even over fries if you're feeling indulgent. Since you're after that Manwich-style flavor, don't skip the vinegar and brown sugar—they're what give it that signature sweet-tangy kick.
